A big "congratulations" to Kevin Macdonald who made his first solo recently in the SACFT Piper Archer III. Great conditions with a gentle 10kt wind straight down runway 21 and a peach of a landing!
Currently a police officer based in Edinburgh, 35 year-old Kevin only started training with SACFT in mid February. Kevin has wanted to fly ever since he was a wee lad but, like most people, never really did anything about it until personal circumstances and finances allowed! Kevin purchased a 10-hour intensive pack with SACFT and has just bought a second one to continue the training. He now has over 16 hrs logged.
Kevin said, "I was quite chuffed with my first solo landing. I deployed a stage of flap a little earlier than normal, just to slow things down a little!" (A lot of the students do find the Archer very fast!)
SACFT Instructor Paul Duncan said "Kev is actually thinking of going all the way to a commercial flying career, but is just seeing how things go for the moment. He's been flying intensively (up to 7-8 hrs in a week) so this way, I'd anticipate he will get the PPL pretty quickly."
