The GASCo talk was enlightening as usual and well attended with around 40 members. It was surprising to hear the numbers of CAS incursions and should make us greatful to have such a large area to enjoy.
During the talk several websites were mentioned and I have included the links below.
The committee and members of the Scottish Aero Club send their deepest condolences to the family of Lt Cdr John (Jock) Moffat who died peacefully in Perthshire at the weekend, aged 97. John had been an active member of the club for many years and up until very recently enjoyed a visit to the club for lunch and a chat with his old flying freinds. He was a true gentleman, and will be sadly missed.
A notice in the Dundee Courier has advised that Johns funeral will be private, at his request. There will however be a public memorial service in 2017, date to be announced later.
Defence Diplomacy at Altitude, December 1st
The Open Skies Treaty was a multi-national attempt to sacrifice air sovereignty in order to enhance military transparency and build multi-national confidence by permitting observation flights over almost the full territory of each signatory state.
In this extremely interesting session, club member George Roberts will present an overview of his involvement in implementation of the policy, along with numerous anecdotes of what it was like to support this new found diplomacy in the aircraft of the time at altitude!
You won't want to miss this tale of immediate post cold war relations between air forces - not least given what it may tell us about where we are right now. In the SAC clubrooms at 7 for 7.30pm.
