Perth Airport is an easy field to find - but don't expect to see it until you're relatively close! If you're flying up from England, then we recommend one of the following routes:

from the South (East Coast route)

Follow the East Coast northwards from Newcastle, you'll lose contact with Newcastle approach around Boulmer and unless you're above 3000ft you may well not be able to contact Scottish Information (119.875) until around Holy Island. When you are in the vicinity of RAF Boulmer (a rescue base), you should always give Boulmer Radio a call on 123.1 but also consider routing well away from the base and keep a sharp eye out for their helicopter. At Berwick, head directly for North Berwick - mind the 5 mile exclusion zone around Torness Nuclear Power station - cross the Firth of Forth to Earlsferry and head directly to Perth. As you coast in at Earlsferry, you might want to change freq to Leuchars Radar (126.500). The city of Perth is easy to locate being at the head of the Firth of Tay, but unless you are significantly higher than 2000ft you won't see the field until you cross the Tay due to the western end of the Sidlaw hills being in the way.

from the South (Western route)

Head northwards from Carlisle, establish contact with Scottish Information (119.875) and transit the Scottish TMA between the Glasgow and Edinburgh class D airspace. Follow the Strathallan Valley north-east from Stirling with the Ochil Hills on your right. Be sure to give Strathallan a wide berth (parachuting), better still give them a call on 129.900 to see if they are dropping. The city of Perth lies at the head of the Firth of Tay and the field is some 5 miles NE.

Turn in and go up the main drive. Parking is available in front of the control tower, or alternatively turn right into 'Smith Drive', jink right/left past the Café into the car park behind the main hangar. In either case, you should walk along 'Smith Drive' past the Café and across the apron to the Scottish Aero Club which you will recognise from the picture above.

Responsible enthusiasts are welcome. Please seek permission from reception BEFORE visiting any part of the field or hangars.
