2025 Christmas Party

Festive fun was had by all at this year’s Christmas party – great food and lots of laughs. Big thanks to Elaine, once again, for the superb organisation and to everyone who came along and made it a brilliant night.

Thanks also to Santa for joining us. Anyone ever noticed that he looks suspiciously like club member Dave Wells? We’ve never seen the two of them together – perhaps Santa’s sleigh is really a Gyro!

More thanks to Elaine for the great photographs, just a few of which appear below.

4-5:30pm
Please contact Glasgow Airport at airspace@glasgowairport.com to register for this session.
We will let you know if Edinburgh Airport also propose to host a similar event.

Offshore Drone Operations - February 2026

Click the link below to read all about the proposed BLVS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) drone operations surveying the North Sea Oil and Gas operations for background Methane measurements.

Flylogix offshore Aberdeen drone operations

The Scottish Aero Club has been consulted for comment and we propose to register a “no objections” response as this is unlikely to affect our GA operations. It is however a useful reminder to check NOTAMs before every flight and to install an up to date electronic conspicuity device. These drones will be equipped with ADSB in and out and Mode S transponders.

Cockpit Fire Extinguishers - Halon Fire Extinguisher Decommissioning

General Aviation pilots and aircraft owners are reminded that halon-based handheld fire extinguishers must be removed from aircraft cabins and crew compartments by 31 December 2025, in line with UK environmental regulations.

The CAA is not responsible for enforcing these rules or issuing exemptions.

Guidance on replacement options and regulatory responsibilities is available on the CAA website.

SAC Comment: There is no requirement for permit aircraft under 2000Kg to carry an extinguisher. However CAA certified aircraft will be guided by their maintenance organisation who should already have this in hand.

Airport Closure Thursday 30th Oct. Approx 11 a.m

Notification from Airfield Operator – ACS.

ACS Flight Training and Perth Airport Rescue Firefighter service will be running a simulated crash exercise on Thursday October 30th, starting at approximately 1100.

The exercise will test the airport’s emergency response procedures and will include a brief closure of the airport and local airspace. Local emergency services will be in attendance, blue-light services vehicles and other vehicles airside are to be expected.

To minimise the effect on operations, runway 03/21 will be made available as soon as operationally possible. However please be aware that H/P Charlie and fuel provision will be unavailable for longer.

The exercise is designed to allow the airport based crew to work alongside local emergency services and is a vital part of training to deliver as effective a response as possible. It also demonstrates the ongoing commitment of the airport operator to providing a professional safety response as part of their overall operations.

The airport will be NOTAMed closed from 11:00 – 12:00 However it is hoped that the exercise will be complete in around 20 – 30 minutes and the restrictions removed once finished.

G-WATR - Hangar resident in fundraiser

A flight in Anna Walker’s floatplane G-WATR is part of a silent auction to raise funds for the Goodwood Flying Scholarship.

The package invites you to take to the skies and embrace the thrill of flying in a Husky Amphibian seaplane, one of the very few seaplanes in the UK. Ideal for both novices and aviation enthusiasts, this two-hour flying adventure offers more than mere sightseeing – it’s a ticket to a magic exploration of the skies and lochs of Scotland. Anna Walker and Peter Kynsey, owners of the Husk and both qualified seaplane flying instructors, will share their passion for seaplanes.

Just over a week to go now to the closing date Anna Walker’s amphibious Christen A-1 Husky G-WATR flight experience is currently cruising  straight and level at £800 on the bid site below.  Or more if you would like to make a higher bid!

2025 Fly-In

Despite the weather, there was a lot to enjoy at this year’s Fly-in. We hosted a total of seven visitors from as far north as Oldmeldrum and as far south as Teeside. They all managed to continue their Navex flights before the rain and clouds rolled in during the afternoon.

Lunchtime remained dry when burgers and sausages were served and duly consumed!

The new attractions of an activity schedule for young people and the Guild of Aviation Artists exhibition went well. A painting of the SCAA helicopter was donated to the charity and received by Russell Myles.

Annual Fly-In 13th September 2025 Request for Members to Volunteer to help out on Friday, Saturday & Sunday

5pm Saturday 6th to 9am Sunday 7th September SCONE AIRPORT CLOSED

There will be NO out of hours flying on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September.

This will be Notamed and we have had an apology from the ACS Operations team for the VERY late notice of this.  SCAA are hosting a fundraising Fun-Run on Saturday evening that is using all 3 runways.  Over 200 people are expected to attend and time is needed in advance of the 7pm kick off to set up.  The extension to 9am next morning is to ensure a thorough FOD check can be carried out before opening the runways again.

Ladies Day 2025

We hosted our 3rd annual Ladies Day on Saturday 6th September. Once again all of the attendees expressed amazement and surprise at the number and variety of aircraft owned by club members.

Everyone who flew was delighted with the experience. The result of which is an ever-expanding group of advocates for the Scottish Aero Club.

Perth Airport - Roadways resurfacing

Sometime in the next two weeks contractors will be on-site to resurface the whole of the approach road from the entrance to the airfield up to the tower and the roadways to the right and left of the mini roundabout.

Prior to the resurfacing the potholes will be filled in (including the two major clunkers in the alleyway beside the Touchdown Cafe).

Diversions will be in place to ensure access is maintained but there may be a couple of days when parking behind our hangar and gaining access via the gate beside the fuel hut is required.

More details to follow when available.
