The Scottish Aero Club

SAC Hall of Fame

Trophies and Winners

Every year, The Scottish Aero Club awards trophies to club members for their endeavours throughout the year.  Below are the past winners of these prestigious awards which are presented at the Club’s Annual Dinner.
Sadly, due to covid regulations preventing flying and gatherings, only some of the trophies were awarded during 2020 and 2021.
In addition to the Club’s awards, we were delighted that our former Chairman, Ian Corse, received an award from the Royal Aero Club – details appear below, plus the winners of the James MacIntyre Navigation Competition.

The James MacIntyre Navigation Competition

The winners of the 2023 Inaugural Competition are Ian and Kathryn Ferguson flying Skyranger G-CDBO. Congratulations Ian and Kathryn!

Click HERE to see their entry which includes the images of the animal they constructed from the landscape – a penguin!  An honourable mention is due to both William Mackaness and Keith Boardman for the quality of their entries, too.

In fact, no one succeeded in finding the target animal. However, the many suggestions included a penguin, duck, dog, snake, (live) deer, dolphin, rabbit, dinosaur, elephant and mouse!  The target animal is still there and shall remain a mystery as it may well be used again for next year’s competition but with additional ways of triangulating its exact position!

Many thanks to everyone who entered.

Award for former SAC Chairman - Ian Corse

Former SAC Chairman, Ian Corse, was recently recognised by the Royal Aero Club at its award ceremony in London.

Ian was awarded a Bronze Medal for “meritorious achievements in aviation or for those who have made a major contribution to the work of the Royal Aero Club, its members or to a field of aviation.”  This is in recognition of his work with the LAA and his efforts in building an ‘RV Owners Community’.

Ian was the Chairman of the Scottish Aero Club for five years, stepping down in May 2023.   During his time as Chairman of the Club worked tirelessly to promote the Club and foster relationships with other organisations.  We are delighted that Ian has decided to remain on the SAC Committee where he will continue to contribute to the running of the Club.
