Honouring John Moffat 2015
John William Charlton Moffat was a Scottish Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm pilot, widely credited as the pilot whose torpedo crippled the German battleship Bismarck and author of the biographical ‘I sank the Bismarck’, a title he would rather have been ‘We sank the Bismark’. John was brought up in the Scottish Borders and returned to Scotland after the war. He had a long connection with the Scottish Aero Club, regularly visiting for a chat and occasional flight right up to his passing on 11th Dec 2016 at 97 years of age.
